Flu Vaccine Services

Our Flu Vaccine Services

Protecting yourself against seasonal illnesses is essential, and we are here to ensure you receive the necessary vaccinations. One such vaccination is the flu jab, which can significantly reduce the risk of flu-related complications. You may be eligible for the flu jab if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • over 65 years of age (including those turning 65 years by 31 March 2024)
  • have a long-term condition such as kidney disease, heart disease and vascular disease, respiratory disease, liver disease, diabetes, immunosuppression, neurological disease, learning disability, asplenia or dysfunction of the spleen, morbidly obese (aged from 16 years) with a BMI of 40kg/m2 and above
  • all pregnant women (including those women who become pregnant during the influenza season)
  • all children aged 2 or 3 years on 31 August 2023
  • school-age children (reception to year 11)
  • those in long-stay residential care homes
  • carers in receipt of carer’s allowance, or those who are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person
  • close contacts of immunocompromised individuals
  • all frontline health care workers, including both clinical and non-clinical staff who have contact with patients

Please note low-risk 50-64-year-olds are not included this year, having been eligible only as part of a temporary expansion during the pandemic. This list is not exhaustive and decisions are based on clinical judgement.

If you answered YES to any of these questions, your doctor strongly recommends that you protect yourself against influenza. We encourage you to make an appointment at our surgery starting in September throughout the Winter months to receive the flu jab.

It’s important to note that the flu vaccine cannot give you the flu. Rest assured that it is a safe and effective way to safeguard your health. There are three types of flu vaccines that we are using. You will be offered the appropriate vaccine for your age group. For more detailed information about the flu and the vaccine, we recommend visiting the NHS Choices website.

Your well-being is our priority, and we are dedicated to providing you with the best possible care. Take the necessary steps to protect yourself and those around you from the flu by scheduling your flu jab appointment with us.
